05-04-19 - Gareth has come from a breeder.  We will give him a bath and groom.Gareth will need a kind home willing to give him a chance of a new start - he has never lived inside. Never celebrated a Christmas or a Birthday. Never wandered out to the garden to laze on the grass on a sunny day or chased off the birds and butterflies. He will need a dog in her new home to gain some confidence from and to learn all the things he has never had the chance to such as housetraining, walking on a lead and how to sit on a lap and nap. He has a lovely boy and deserves to know the happiness that our own dogs enjoy each day

11-04-19 UPDATE

Didn’t get an after photo of this lovely boy. He just laid down rather bewildered whilst he was clipped off-he was half the size going out! He must so much better after his matted fur was clipped.

14-04-19 UPDATE
Very sadly we have discovered that Gareth has a has a grade 5/6 heart murmur. We are looking for a calm and quiet home for Gareth where he can take life at a slow pace.

30-04-19 UPDATE
Gareth is hardly recognisable from his photos when he first arrived! He had a full body makeover and underneath all of that dirty matted fur was this handsome face you can see now.
Gareth is quite a little dude, he will happily snooze all day and isn't overly bothered about us humans, as long as he has somewhere comfortable and warm to snuggle up he's happy. Gareth will happily let you approach him and pick him up although he's isn't a love of a fuss, he is very willing and will let you do anything to him.
Gareth can shut down in new situations at the moment and freezes but the more new experiences he is exposed to i'm sure his confidence will grow. Sadly we recently discovered Gareth has a high grade heart murmur so is looking for a chilled out home where he can cuddle up and watch the world go around.. or sleep.
Aside from his favourite hobbies (sleeping and eating), Gareth is quite partial to a little stroll ! He gets a little wiggle on when we go for a walk and he quite enjoys being outside. His kennel pal Glitzen is very similar to him and they both snooze all day, but when put with playful dogs he does like to have a little play. After all of this exercise and excitement, of course Gareth loves nothing more than to go for a snooze.
Gareth would make someone the perfect little companion, I'm sure in time he would love to also snuggle up on your lap to!!

08-05-19 UPDATE

Do you need a cuddle? Is your home missing an old dog that will curl up in the corner whilst you potter about the house and share a warm snuggle throughout the day?? We’ve got your dog waiting right here!!
After being with us for 5 weeks Gareth has experienced a world he never knew existed. We shaved off the matted fur, it revealed some bad skin and a few lumps and bumps. The vet has checked him over, and whilst Gareth’s skin is looking much better, we’re still observing to ensure full recovery.
The hair that was covering Gareths eyes had caused an infection and an ulcer, but that has been treated and is clearing up well.
The vet also has given Gareth a full health check. His grade 5 Heart murmur is something to watch but being around 10 years old the vet has limited the number of times he will be under anaesthetic to avoid further complications. Because of this, he has had some light dental work done, but he has been spared more intense dental procedures and lump removal. He is eating well, so there isn’t too much concern. Gareth choses to favour a different foot every week. He’s an old man so aches and pains are likely. Nothing seems to be of too much concern to the vet, I think it might be to lure someone in for a cuddle!
Give this old man a chance, goodness knows he deserves one.

31-05-19 UPDATE
Gareth (or Rodney/Rodders as he is known here) is developing into a cheeky and loving little man. He is such a character who despite his aches and pains has moments of 'naughtiness' where he drags whatever he can find (e.g. dog beds and odd shoes) around the house.

Rodders loves human company now and will follow me around to see what I'm up to. He is OK with other dogs as long as they are respectful of him and his old bones- but he will grumble a bit if they over step the mark! Rodney is not currently on any medication for his heart murmur but any adopters need to be aware that he may need tablets in the future for this and requires pain relief at times. Watching this sweetheart sunbathing and munching on a chew is a delight to see as even these simple pleasures are new to him.
Rodders needs a quiet home and he could go as an only dog as long as he is only left for short periods. If you are prepared to lavish this old man with love in his retirement years please do apply for him.

PLEASE NOTE: We nearly always home dogs who have come from breeders where there is ALREADY A RESIDENT DOG living in the house. They have usually never lived in a house before and are only used to canine company. They usually get their confidence and learn faster with another dog to copy from. This also helps with house training and learning how to walk on a lead. They will make lovely pets but do need a lot of love, time and patience. If the ex breeding dog you are interested in can be an only dog it will say so in its write up. Please read our information on ADOPTING EX-BREEDING DOGS before you apply.

ADOPTION DETAILS - GARETH IS BY DONATION

Although GARETH is by donation rather than the full adoption fee, we ask for a minimum donation of £100 to help cover the costs that have been incurred. If your application is successful you will be home checked and you, all members of your family and any dog(s) who will be living with the dog MUST come to meet the dog you want to adopt. You must have a safe means of transporting the dog home in a crate or if this is not possible please discuss with Many Tears or the Fosterer when your application is being processed.
